Charlevoix County Criminal Docket Searches
MiCOURT Case Search is the public entry point for a Charlevoix County criminal docket. Pick D90 for a misdemeanor, criminal infraction, arraignment, or felony preliminary matter. Pick C33 for a felony after bindover. The system calls its chronological case history a Register of Actions, or ROA. That record is informational only. It is not the official file, and a result may lack the document image a reader needs.
Search with the full case number first. Use it before a name when a citation, notice, or court letter shows it. The public model also accepts a last name or business name, an optional first or middle name, birth year where offered, case category, and status filters. Results can list a caption, court, file date, status, judge, disposition date, next hearing, or charge information when populated. A blank field proves nothing. The obligation or event may still exist.
- Open MiCOURT and choose the Charlevoix County D90 or C33 court route that fits the stage of the criminal case.
- Enter the year, number, and case type exactly when those parts are known. Otherwise use the last name and only the extra fields that help distinguish a common name.
- Open the matching public ROA and read entries in date order, separating a scheduled hearing from an event already held.
- Compare the newest future setting with the county hearing list or Court Display when the date is important.
- Contact the responsible Charlevoix County court or clerk for an older, restricted, missing, or certified record.
Charlevoix D90 and C33 Criminal Dockets
Charlevoix County runs its criminal docket at two levels. The 90th District Court records misdemeanors, criminal infractions and ordinance matters, arraignment activity, bail, and felony preliminary proceedings. The 33rd Circuit Court holds the felony trial-stage docket after bindover. Where the paper record lives depends on the level. The Charlevoix County Clerk keeps circuit records. D90 maintains its own district case record through its clerk and administrator staff.
| Charlevoix court | Criminal docket role | Best first contact |
|---|---|---|
| D90 | Misdemeanor and preliminary felony entries, plus local criminal and infraction matters | District criminal division, 231-547-7227 |
| C33 | Felony trial-stage entries after bindover and related circuit proceedings | Circuit Court, 231-547-7243 |
The official D90 MiCOURT route is the search interface the court itself selects for Charlevoix County criminal docket lookups.
Start with the court level. A felony may open a D90 preliminary record and later a C33 trial record, so a Charlevoix County searcher should check both when the ROA reports a bindover or transfer. Cities add a wrinkle. The city named on a citation does not create a separate Charlevoix municipal criminal docket. County sources route those through D90 or administrative handling.
Criminal Dockets: What They Show
A Charlevoix County criminal ROA can show the case identity, court, case type, filing date, judge, caption, public status, participants, charges, setting details, and event history. What appears varies by court and access status. One public C33 hearing list works as an example. It is a dated calendar, not a full ROA. It gives just enough to identify a setting. That means no promise of a complete charge, balance, document image, or private case file.
| Case number | A local C33 hearing-list example uses 24-615-14-FC. Retain the exact punctuation and type code from the notice. |
|---|---|
| Case and court | Case type, caption or style, C33 or D90, assigned judge, and public status help identify the right record. |
| Charge and parties | MiCOURT may show charge level, participants, counsel, and related identifiers when those fields are public and populated. |
| Settings | Date, time, courtroom or room, judge, and hearing label identify a scheduled criminal appearance. |
| Result fields | Status, disposition date, plea or verdict, sentencing or order entries, and cross-references explain what happened later. |
A Charlevoix County hearing list may name counsel. It may carry a setting label too. Neither reveals the full contents of the official case file, so ask the responsible clerk for a particular order, judgment of sentence, transcript, or certified copy.
Charlevoix Criminal Docket Bench Trial Entry
The county's public April 2025 C33 hearing list offers one helpful Charlevoix County example. The entry reads "CONTINUATION OF BENCH TRIAL." The list is headed for the 33rd Circuit Court in Charlevoix County. It carries a hearing date, judge, Circuit Courtroom, start time, case number, case style, counsel field, and setting label. It is a hearing docket, not a ruling.
A continuation means a bench trial already started or was carried to another date. It does not signal a new charge, a completed trial, or a final disposition. The county's Court Dockets page posts dated circuit and Friend of the Court lists. All dockets are subject to change, the page warns. For live status, use the ROA and current court confirmation.
A hearing label names the setting's purpose. The result is separate. It comes from a later order, plea, verdict, or judgment entry.
Criminal Case Stages on the Docket
A Charlevoix County felony docket commonly begins with a complaint, warrant, or charging entry. Those first appear in the lower court. D90 may then record arraignment, plea position, counsel, and bond conditions where public. It can also show a preliminary-examination setting. A held preliminary examination can lead to bindover or transfer. The case then moves up. C33 may assign its own circuit case number, judge, and criminal charge block. It can also carry a linked lower-court identifier.
Once in C33, the Charlevoix County criminal docket may show pretrial activity, motions, and a plea. It may also show trial settings, sentencing, and a later order or judgment. Misdemeanors generally stay in D90. A financial field may display costs, restitution, bond, or balance. An absent value proves nothing. It does not mean there is no obligation.
Docket flow: Charging entry → D90 arraignment → preliminary examination → bindover when ordered → C33 pretrial, plea, or trial → disposition and sentencing.
Charlevoix Criminal Docket Result Terms
Status words in a Charlevoix County docket need context. D90 and C33 reports use aggregate categories. An individual ROA uses its own dated entry. Read any result alongside the event date and the court level. That habit keeps a transfer, an administrative classification change, or an inactive status from being mistaken for the outcome of a criminal charge.
- Bindover or transfer
- A felony matter moved from D90 preliminary proceedings to C33 for circuit handling.
- Guilty plea or admission
- A plea-based resolution, followed where appropriate by sentencing or another court order.
- Bench or jury verdict
- A result reached by a judge or jury rather than a plea.
- Deferred
- A case or disposition placed in deferred status under a court order or program.
- Inactive status
- A system status showing no active processing, not automatically a decision on the merits.
A Charlevoix County report may also say "Dismissed by Party," "Dismissed by Court," "Not Charged," or "Case Type Change." Those labels carry different meanings. The county posts no full local code glossary. Ask C33 or D90 what a short code or unclear event label means before you rely on it.
Charlevoix County Criminal Docket Courts
Who holds the record depends on the split between courts. D90 keeps the Charlevoix County criminal docket for misdemeanors. It also holds felony cases still at the district stage. C33 takes over after bindover. That court holds the felony trial record. Circuit-level criminal files are kept through the County Clerk's Circuit Court Records operation. Check the notice, the case number, or the newest ROA entry. Let whichever court is named control your request.

The Charlevoix County Clerk runs a records counter at 203 Antrim Street. Circuit records are among its listed duties. Older Charlevoix Criminal Dockets Online
MiCOURT warns that courts named in the application can apply a seven-year criminal-sentence filter to its public search. Several things can hide a case. An excluded category, a protected record, or a paper or archived file can each keep a Charlevoix County criminal docket off the screen. So can a search aimed at the wrong court. A blank result still proves nothing about whether the case exists.
When a record is missing: check the C33 and D90 routes, use the exact case number, review whether the case is protected or older, then call the court that would hold the record. For a dated setting, compare the ROA with the current C33 PDF or MiCOURT Court Display before relying on it.
Court staff in Charlevoix County can confirm the authorized path. They can explain how to inspect or request a record through it. The counter at the courthouse is the confirmed in-person channel. State standards require some means of public inspection. But the county publishes no kiosk location or schedule. A written request should name the docket or document. It should give the case details and state the copy type you prefer. Include return contact information too.
Note: MiFILE is a filing and service workspace for authorized users who log in. It is not an anonymous stand-in for the public criminal docket search.
Access Rules for Criminal Dockets
Court rules, statutes, and court orders govern public Charlevoix County criminal records, not a general county FOIA request. MiCOURT supplies the public case-history layer. The county also posts C33 hearing PDFs, and the MiCOURT Court Display offers a date-based view when it returns a public display. Want a public document? Contact C33, D90, or the clerk maintaining the case.
The official Michigan criminal-records rule spells out what this Charlevoix County criminal docket access image puts into practice.
Public access has limits. Juvenile and other protected categories may not show up, sealed records may be suppressed, and public filings must shield personal identifiers. So a search result is not the official file. Nor is it permission to view restricted material.
Key Rules:
MCR 8.119(H), (I), and (J) permits inspection of public case records unless restricted and bars an access fee for public case-history inspection.
MCR 1.109(D)(9) and (10) protects personal identifiers in court filings and provides redaction procedures.
MCL 780.621g addresses eligible automatic set-aside records and their nonpublic treatment after the statutory conditions are met.
D90 Charlevoix Criminal Docket Counts
The official 2023 D90 report sets Charlevoix County criminal entries inside the wider district docket. It lists 208 felony new filings, and misdemeanor new filings came to 228. OUIL or OWI misdemeanor filings came to 227. Traffic-misdemeanor filings came to 265. Those lines stand apart from other docket matters. Traffic civil infractions, civil cases, small claims, summary matters, and parking entries sit outside these counts. They are aggregate court statistics, not descriptions of individual cases.
That mix is a good reason to start any Charlevoix County search with the case type and court level. A D90 felony entry may be only a preliminary-stage record, while a later C33 record carries the trial-stage history after bindover. The official D90 caseload report gives the reported categories and totals.
